COMMISSIONS, PARISH GROUPS & LAY ORGANIZATIONS

One of the more important changes in the Roman Catholic Church as a result of Vatican II has been the recognition of the right and resultant expanded areas of responsibilities of the Catholic laity in many areas of Church Life. Vatican II stressed that the mission of Jesus was committed to all of His followers, and therefore, every Catholic has an obligation to service consistent with his or her talent, whether it be in the area of evangelization, sanctification or Christian service ministries.

The Parish Pastoral Council is the thinking, planning, reflection group for the parish. The commissions are the doers, the ones who actually make the plans happen. Each commission has its own particular purpose and area of responsibility in the life of the parish.

In addition, parish groups and lay organizations serve a variety of purposes in carrying out the mission of Jesus.
